All the jump rings at Spiderchain are made with American Wire Gauge (AWG) wire sizes – also known as the Brown & Sharpe gauge system. AWG is the gauge system used for precious metals, and we follow it even for our copper and brass rings. You’ll see rings divided into “inch sizes” and “millimeter sizes.” This refers to the inner diameters of the jump rings that we make. You can get the same tiny-to-huge range of ring sizes in either measurement system, it’s really just a question of which system makes more sense to you. (I personally prefer inches, but I know I’m in the minority! *grin*)
The 18 gauge rings listed here are made with wire that is 1.02mm (or 0.0403″) thick.
Standard Sizes
These are your typical chainmaille ring sizes, ranging from “just big enough for a 2-in-1 chain” through “a little bigger than the big rings of Dragonscale.”
Millimeters: inner diameters from 2.25mm through 7mm.
Inches: inner diameters from 6/64″ (3/32″) through 18/64″ (9/32″).
Sampler Packs
If you work in 18 gauge often and want to have all of the standard sizes at your fingertips? Pick up one of these gauge samplers, available in all six of the main metals that we offer. (The brass and copper samplers are especially helpful for testing designs.)
Large Aspect Ratio Sizes
These are the hula-hoops of jump rings. Very large diameters, useful for very specific designs.
Millimeters: inner diameters from 7.5mm through 30mm.
Inches: inner diameters from 19/64″ through 64/64″ (1″).
