Spiderchain rings are available in every gauge from 22ga through 10ga. We wrap that wire around mandrels that range from 1/16″ to 1″, and from 1.5mm to 30mm. Some of those wire/mandrel combinations are fantastic for chainmail, others… not so much. These two charts show the possible ring sizes (inches on the left, millimeters on the right) from our wire/mandrel combinations.
The purple shaded areas on both charts are the “sweet spot” for chainmail. I defined this range to be any ring size with an aspect ratio between 2.0 (just barely big enough to make a simple 2-in-1 chain) and 7.0 (a bit bigger than you need for Dragonscale). You can find these rings in the main Jump Rings area of the site.
But what if you want a ring with an aspect ratio even bigger than 7.0? The unshaded areas in the lower left of each chart are the Large Aspect Ratio rings. You won’t use these sizes every day, but if you want them? I can make them.
And then there are the greyed-out sizes in the upper right of each chart. Those are sizes that I won’t make. The wire is just too big in comparison to the mandrel — larger than the mandrel in many cases!
