Spiderchain is no longer the distributor for Scott Plumlee’s kits. You can still refer to the size grid below for all the ring sizes he uses in his books, but you’ll need to visit his new distributor if you want the pre-packed kits.
These pliers are hugely useful for Scott’s second and third books. Many of the projects in those books call for specific sizes of wire loops. These pliers take the guesswork out of consistent sizing and they make your finished piece look even better! |
These are the ring sizes that Scott uses in his designs. You can read about his specific uses for each size on his supplies page.

* Size 3.1M19 is made on a custom mandrel that I created specifically for Scott. No, it’s not a typo, but you won’t find this size anywhere else on my site.
** For best size matching, 22:17 in copper should be replaced by 9M17cu. This small change is necessary because copper wire is a bit softer, so the sizes run a tad smaller. That difference in wire springback is most noticable in extremely thin (large aspect ratio) sizes like this one.
*** Scott calls them “bronze.” I call them “jewelry brass.” These are the rings that have been in his kits from the beginning, and they’re the rings shown in his book illustrations. The alloy is 85% copper, 15% zinc. Because it’s alloyed with zinc (not tin) I call it brass. But Scott thinks that “bronze” sounds more elegant. Don’t let the brass/bronze difference confuse you – they’re the same rings that they’ve always been!
