A very open, lacy version of the japanese pattern. This piece looks great when hanging, but can
appear jumbled when laying flat. I don't have any beads or headpins available, maybe later.

Sweet, dainty earrings. And I see all kinds of potential for matching pieces. A bracelet with these
clusters strung end-to-end. A necklace centerpiece with three clusters - two to the sides and one hanging
down. Uh oh! Too many ideas!
One difference here is that the earring post I used has the loop going the other way, so I didn't use
the final connector ring at the top. My earring posts are soldered closed, so there's no strength
worries - but the loop goes front-to-back, so leave out one connector ring.

I pulled out my 5mm inner diameter rings to make the sample, but they looked far too large. So
I contacted the artist, and she confirmed that the rings are supposed to be 5mm outer
diamter, not inner diamter. I've used size 8:20gf rings for my sample - outer diamter of 4.98mm - I'd
call that a match! *grin*
I really like how the varying dag sizes in this design dress it up. It's more interesting (to my eye) than
the same size points the whole way. (Uh oh - more ideas!)
I'll get a sample picture for the earring posted soon(ish).
Please note that I have gold fill posts for sale, not the ear wires.

The size of the large ring in this design is very forgiving. I originally made the piece in stainless steel with rings
that I had on hand, and the silver sizes are simply the closest match that I have to those long-ago stainless sizes. Never
feel that you only have one option for sizes - in any pattern! Play around with different choices and you'll come up
with looks that are uniquely yours.
That said, I'm going to list here the sizes that I use for the necklace. I'm not quite sure how the book ended up
with millimeter sizes for this one, since I make it in inch sizes. *shrug*
Beads and headpins aren't available through Spiderchain. Maybe someday, but not yet.
ps: The book is a little confusing on the flip-over-and-lock-in-place step, so I've
posted the original instructions that I submitted for the book. I hope you find them
helpful!

I love it, I love it! I liked the design when I first saw the picture in the book, but the real thing is even
nicer. So intricate!
One ounce of each size will make 13 mandalas, with (roughly) the following leftovers:
77 of size 18:16
46 of size 6:21
424 of size 8:21
85 of size 10:18

The directions call for spring-hard wire for the tiny rings, and you do actually need it. I tried with regular half-hard rings, and
they were just a bit too small. The circle folded up and made a very cute little basket, but not really
what I wanted. The spring hard rings are a smidge larger (more coil springback) and they make the pattern
work. The bottom circle still folds up a little bit, but not so much that it ruins the look.
The loops on my earring posts point front-to-back, not side-to-side, so skip the last connector ring and your earrings will face
the correct way.

I goofed! I posted two sizes of rings for this project that only uses one size.
I'll be re-working it and posting the new info soon-ish, but if you purchased rings from me to
make this project, please send me email!

The large rings make this project go together relatively quickly. The weave is heavy, and very flexible.
There's enough room in the small rings that the large rings can overlap and bend very freely. This
bracelet has a very nice sound - something that I don't usually notice in jewelry!

The book calls for 22ga rings, but my rings stop at 21ga. I used the same diamter rings, but bumped the wire
gauge up to 21ga. My sample earring is therefore a bit more dense than the one in the book. If you want
your earring to be as loose as the one in the book, I recommend size 2.75M21gf, which uses 21ga gold fill
wire with a 2.75mm
inner diamter. They're just a teentsy bit bigger, so you might want to reduce the row count lest the
earrings get too large.
But I like the 6:21gf rings. I'm a total fan of dense weaves because they feel so sleek!
I'm using a post instead of an earwire, but the construction is exactly the same. The loops on my posts are
soldered closed, so they're nice and strong.
